They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, well, for us, it did a lot more. It all started with a 10-day trip to Phoenix to visit my Mom for Christmas. The distance drove us crazy (thank you Steve Jobs for FaceTime, RIP).

We’d already talked about marriage and we knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with one another but after this text exchange, things got real! Once I returned home on December 26th, we made the decision to elope. But, we couldn’t find a courthouse with availability before we were set to leave for Chicago on December 30. So, we had to decide if we really wanted to end 2018 as husband and wife or if we wanted to wait until there was open availability.
We didn’t want to wait! So we had to get creative. We ended up finding a woman who would sign our marriage license, but, here’s the catch. It would be at a Biggby Coffee near her home and we’d use the employees as witnesses. And, that’s exactly what we did! We stopped by the coffee shop on our way to Chicago, got our license signed and then we hit the road as husband and wife!
